Come behind the scenes to see how we created a professional advertisement out of a tupperware full of leftover spaghetti and meatballs for our fake restaurant, The Fridge!
Branding:
Since our dish was spaghetti and meatballs, and our featured selling points were fast & free, The Fridge became a modern, fast-casual Italian restaurant.
We created a micro brand board to organize our creative direction and keep it consistent.
Fonts:
a clean, handwritten script font (Dreaming Outloud) for the primary, paired with a rounded sans serif (Como). This gave the brand the modern and fresh feel we were going for… as if Chic-fil-a started serving up pasta.
Color Palette:
the colors of the Italian flag. This might be a little too on-the-nose for your taste, but this is a fake restaurant so let’s set our expectations accordingly.
Logo:
the logo was created in Adobe Illustrator by making a few adjustments the the primary font. Namely, adding a noodle-y underline & a basil leaf above the i. Now we’re speaking spaghetti.
Then the design was recolored using the palette from our brand board.
Photo Shoot:
Sticking with the themes of simple & fresh, we created a textured, grey and white set with natural lighting. The food was plated with a spring of fresh herbs to tie in with the logo
Shooting at a variety of angles and keeping negative space in mind ensured a range of options when selecting an image for the advertisement.

Ad Creation:
To create our deliverable, a single page advertisement, we first had to select which image to use and open it up in Photoshop.
A fork full of pasta was brought in from another image to fill negative space and add interest. Then the special offer in our secondary brand font, a bit of extra spacing between the letters to even out the design, and brought in the exported logo design.
Here is our final ad design! This single page advertisement can be cropped into various specified ratios for print and digital advertisements.
