DIY: Coffee Filter Leaf Garland

A low-cost, kid friendly autumn craft that doesn’t look like it was made by children! We hang these up every year and the boys love knowing that they helped make them.

Supplies:

  • Coffee Filters
  • Markers/Paint
  • Twine or ribbon
  • Scissors
Step 1

Grab your coffee filters and start coloring!
This part is great for kids to help out because it really doesn’t matter how you do it. All leaves have different combinations of colors so pick your favorite shades, experiment and have fun

This kept the boys occupied for a while and we made a lot!

Step 2

After they dry, trace out leaf shapes and cut them out.

I did a Google image search for leaf outlines, picked a few different ones for variation, and traced them off of my laptop screen.

To save time, make a stack of coffee filters (how big of a stack depends on the quality of your scissors) and trace the shape onto the top one. Staple the stack together and cut them all at the same time.

Step 3

String and hang. I used a large need and sliver threaded twine, but you can use any type of string or ribbon and a hole puncher if that’s what works better for you.

Tie a loop into each end of your string and hang! These garlands look great in front of windows or mixed with string lights because the light shines through the coffee filters.
